This Labor Day weekend got kicked off to a somber start last night with an emotional memorial honoring the late DJ AM.  Alongside tearful family members, attendees at the memorial included such famous faces as John Mayer, Robert Downey Jr., Dr. Drew,  former fiancée Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, and fellow DJ Samantha Ronson.  About 3,500 people were in attendance at the Thursday night memorial held at the Hollywood Palladiam.  Although press was not allowed at the event, fans outside the event described the crowd to be despairing, sorrowful, and heartbroken.

DJ AM, born Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his New York City apartment last Friday, August 28th 2009.  DJ AM died alone in his bed of a drug overdose, shirtless, wearing only his sweatpants and lying next to a used crack pipe and scattered bottles of prescription pills.  Autopsy results explain AM’s death as an accidental suicide caused by an overdose on the legal, but extremely addictive painkiller, Oxy Contin.  At the time of his death, AM had an astonishing six pills undigested in his stomach, and one still in his mouth.  It is well known that DJ AM had a serious and lengthy past relationship with drug addiction.  New details are now implying that the newly sober AM was forced back into ways of addiction after being prescribed pain pills to cope with the injuries and aftermath of the fatal September 2009 plane crash he was involved in alongside fellow survivor, Travis Barker, which in turn may have lead to his tragic death.
